To many Martin was The Bee Man. He learned everything he could about bees, taught children about them, helped bees thrive and passed on his knowledge and appreciation of the importance of protecting and working with bees to as many people as possible. Bees Abroad is a charity dedicated to relieving poverty through beekeeping. Their work supports locally appropriate beekeeping around the world, enabling participants to generate income to enhance their livelihoods, alleviate poverty and improve their quality of life.
In the later years of his life Martin was diagnosed with Parkinson's, which played a part in cutting short his beekeeping activities. Parkinson's UK strives to raise awareness, fund research into the causes, effects and possible cures for this life changing disease, whilst also providing advice and support to those affected and their families and friends.
